inspired by the weather forecast today, which says that cape town is going to reach around 36-39 degrees centigrade, i'll most probably be at the tidal pool in kalk bay for the better part of the day!

spring cleaning

the spring cleaning has resumed today as i'm trying to de-clutter my life, starting with my surroundings, in time for the new year. all i've managed so far, was to create this pleasant space in my office/creative area.

painting the kitchen

spring cleaning has totally gotten me inspired to paint the kitchen cabinets and paint over the awful tiles that the previous owner put in. all i can picture is painting the kitchen cupboards this lovely minty vintage green, and matching the blinds which will be in pretty floral fabric. watch this space!

this is a guide on how to paint over ceramic tiles in a weekend...
Cut the cost
Rather than paying the expensive labour costs to replace tiles or melamine cupboards, you can simply give existing tiles a face-lift with a fresh coat of Plascon Tile or Melamine primers.

The process is easy:
Start by thoroughly cleaning all tiles or melamine surfaces with Polycell Sugar Soap to remove grease and dirt. Then apply a coat of Plascon Tile or Melamine Primer and allow 24 hours for it to dry.

The second step is to apply two coats of Plascon Velvaglo, a non-drip, heat, steam and stain resistant enamel, allowing each coat to dry in between. As it dries, the brush marks and ripples smooth out, resulting in a perfect finish that is easy to clean and maintain. Et Voila! A new look bathroom is achieved easily and professionally. For final touches, you can use Plascon Grout Pen, a unique product for filling in grout lines after the paint has been applied, to re-colour in grout lines to complete the look.

Design Tip:
If you don't want to apply a solid coat of paint [over tiles and grout], apply thin automotive tape over the grout and peel off once the tiles have been painted. Use automotive rather than masking tape for this project, as the tape is available in thin strips and does not need to be cut to cover the grouted areas.
