christmas market

in the crowds, no one seemed to notice the siamese twins

...or did they?

the girls and i went down to the shindig at the old biscuit mill last night and saw how the professionals do it! most of my suppliers were there, trying to manage the streams of eager and manic buyers pouring through their tiny stalls. i wonder how many times heather had to explain how you peel off and transfer a wall decal?!!! what a party! i bought two vinyl chairs from charles and spied little retro coffee cups and saucers that belong to the coffee pot i've had standing all alonsies in my shop, so now it has found at least two more members of its family. i get really attached to some of my pieces and often get a pang of desperate attachment when handing them over the counter to their new owner...this might be one of them. the girls and i drank too much delicious wine, ate gourmet food, tried on dresses and belts at kirsty's stall, from the vintage store 'akimbo,' in simonstown, and at 'i love leroy' and 'coppelia,' who have been my favourite cape town designers since i was about 21. i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw the cuteness that is france's 'my china' ceramics who was selling next to her friend, marietjie, who creates the much loved hearts and birds necklaces and brooches that i stock at beatnik bazaar. i bought a cute wooden 'cut out' style tree, for some jewellery that i buy in the future and stocked up on more merry xmas cards from the flowermill stand.
