we drove out to franschhoek to check out kamersvol geskenke at simondium. twas a gorgeous day and not too crowded so we languished like spoilt brats at a country manor house. the goods on offer were far too mooi and twee for me, but the aesthetics of the whole event were stunning and creative and everyone went all out.

i went to a random town fete this morning and look what i caught. i really do have amazing luck!!! how absolutely amazing........

domestic bliss

i started the day with a beautiful ride in the mountain on my trusty black steed, elijah and magick my husky/malamute by my side. i then picked up luca from school, jumped into janine's bakkie and went to one of my suppliers to collect my loot. we then stopped for a quick bite in town and then piled back in the bakkie to fetch a retro dining room table in pinelands that i've been wanting to collect for about a month now from amy, who i bought my retro side table from (she's divine!). my son was amazing throughout the whole day too, so he was given a monkey badge. janine was absolutely buggered, 'cos she drove the whole way from simonstown, and i emerged from the day feeling as fresh as my bulgari eau de parfum. it's clear. it's the driving that's killing me!

well my started out great! i phoned an online advertiser regarding their retro kitchen dresser, when it turned out to be a friend of mine that i'd lost touch with!!! i went over and we chatted over earl grey tea and i paid a deposit to secure the gorgeous piece that i'll be painting white and using as a shop furnishing for my retro kitchenalia and tea towels! then i dropped off some dvd's that my son and i had watched 2 nights before and explored the vintage clothing store that's just opened next to it, in simonstown. it is so gorgeous and kirty's use of the small space is brilliant - i even dreamt about it last night!!! the rest of my day (6 hours) was spent picking up a used washing machine for a friend in bothasig ('*why would anyone live there?' copyright) and it was a series of getting lost, being stuck in traffic and general tardiness that cost me 6 hours of my day!! i felt physically ill. i felt like crying twice. then i picked up my son and we took out a dvd, "fido" and ordered some sushi to go, and my day ended pretty well!

shop prep

on tuesday my day started with the frantic morning rush of getting my son and myself ready, whilst checking emails, hunting for online bargains and bidding on auctions. i then met one of my best friends for breakfast, at imhoff's gift and it was another perfect day in the heart of the deep south, our view stretching over noordhoek and through to hout bay. i then collected a retro coffee pot from a private seller in fish hoek and dropped in on my bag supplier who also lives in the area and took a bag for myself! i missioned to retreat to buy some packaging for my market day on sunday at the noordhoek country fair and chose some vintage style red and white ticking as my ribbon, natural brown bags and red tissue paper to match the ticking. suddenly the flu hit me right between the eyes...i've been waiting for it....been wondering when its stealthy hunt would prey upon me and what do you know - righ before i open my shop - how surprising. anyway, the lovely ladies at wrap n pack gave me a glass of water and i popped some panados and managed to crawl to builders warehouse next door. i bought some wood glue there, for my hat stand which is going to be used as a hand bag stand and then i raced home to soak in a hot bath and to down some med lemon. my son and i then threaded the ticking through all the shopping bags and we collapsed in a heap of ribbon and went to sleep. it's another busy day today when I'll be collecting retro furniture all the way behind the boerewors curtain, so watch this space!

it's all about the money

right, 'operation beatnik' is in full 50's swing now that the money is in and the girls and i plan to don our overalls for a full facelift of my shop. i will be documenting our plight and my days spent sourcing, bartering and smoking a hookah pipe, before the launch of 'beatnik bazaar,' set for an undetermined date in november!

noordhoek beach

i've been trying to write an article on noordhoek for the past week and there is so much to cover, it's been extremely tiring and time consuming. today i walked on the beach for 2 hours and i had to share some pretty pics.

snacks fit for the gods

i went to a friend's birthday in glencairn on saturday night, which she shared with her fiancee, who happens to be a closet chef. i have never seen such passion infused in cocktail snacks in all my life! read the black board in the picture and you'll have some idea. my favourites were the beef carpaccio rolled with fresh pear, rocket and parmesan, courgette and emmenthaler rolled like sushi, peanut and fresh chilli flavoured chicken and the simple yet incredible cocktail bangers with maple syrup and fresh coriander - hello!!!! stunning guys! here's to michiel and odette!
