music competition - win win win!

dear bloggers and readers,

i've decided to run a little competition regarding what type of music i should be playing in my shop! if you come up with the best top 20 list of music (albums and artists) that transports my customers into a beautiful fantasy world, i will reward you with:

2 Home Bakes White Mugs accompanied by a tea towel by skinny laminx, entitled 'waiting,' and a beautiful biscuit tea time bowl by home bakes.

mail this post to your friends and lets see who can come up with the best shop music list!

now, most importantly, my favourite music/influences are: ashlee simpson, miley cyrus, prime circle.....ONLY KIDDING guys!!!!!!!!!!

for real now, here goes (!) My favourites of all time: Lark, David Bowie, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, Sufjan Stevens, Radiohead, The Beatles, Massive Attack, The Police, Fiona Apple. Kings of Leon, Regina Spektor, Goldfrapp, Department of Eagles, Bat for Lashes, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Shins, The Decemberists, The Doves, Death Cab for Cutie, Joanna Newsom, No Doubt, Madness, Fleet Foxes, Vampire Weekend, Arcade Fire, The Knife, Madness, Moldy Peaches, New Young Pony Club, Nick Cave and The Raconteurs.

that will give you a good idea that i'm into indie folk. now if you come up with a list that doesn't feature these artists, don't worry! i want to be introduced to some new stuff that will also lull my customers into a false sense of security that will inevitably result in a temporary loss of sanity and copious spending.

now remember to send you lists, numbered from 1 - 10, with the album and artist, like so:

1. Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - David Bowie
2. Tidal - Fiona Apple
3. ...etc

good luck! this runs until the end of april.

Quite difficult to pick 10:

1.One Cell In The Sea- A Fine Frenzy (this actually reminds me of Alice in Wonderland – pretty ethereal stuff)
2.Little Honey: Lucinda Williams (always good – a chick and her guitar)
3.Broken Boy Soldiers: The Raconteurs
4.Little Earthquakes: Tori Amos (um…what can you say – excellent tracks)
5.Transatlanticism: Death Cab for Cutie
6.AKA Shake Heartbreak: Kings of Leon (yes, yes, yes)
7.Once Again – John Legend (yes, it’s a bit of diff’t genre, but it’s good stuff too)
8.Synchronicity – The Police (good beats!)
9.The Joshua Tree – U2
10.Abbey Road – The Beatles (their best?)

I threw some diff't ones in !!

Beatnik,

I awarded you the Kreativ Blogger Award - you just need to complete a little meme and she's all yours to display. Find it here:

Isn't it odd I was the only one who wrote in. Hmm. I would feel odd winning by default, so I think you should nix the contest and start again (within your store, asking the customers for help). Maybe you could post some playlists (3?), customers choose the best one by putting their names in a jar, the jar/playlist with the most votes win and you pull a name from it and provide the prize to said person. Voila. Or you could just come up with your own. C'est la vie.

Thanks, maybe I'll do that!

GINA! OMW this is...this is pure gold!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe you know artists that even I haven't heard of! LOVE this playlist, do you have some of the music? We can swap! I have Samson (Regina) and Crash (Dave Matthews) and thats it! I loved Finley Quaye when he came out but lost the CD. Let me know! I've got a few Goldfrapp albums which I'm sure you love and have to listen to that Lark-esque suggestion. THANKS!
