happy customers

i sent my first courier orders off this week, and amazingly there were 4 of them, all in joburg. i have just received emails from 2 happy customers and had to share them with you, seeing as it was the very first time i used a courier!

'Just received the intact parcel with added delights. Many many thanks. Watta win. Love your shop Thaya. Will spread the word. Nadya.'
glad that you love it nadja, it was a lot of fun to make up your parcel!

'I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you. I've just received the stuff I
ordered and got the beautiful brooch and purse thing in the drawer. THANK
YOU SO MUCH. I loved it!'
sending up a bedside table made me very nervous but i am so glad you are happy with everything shelley!

my stomach is turning

i've got some intense things on the go at the mo and my stomach is permanently in a knot! i'm trying to launch my website, and i have to upload all the information, take all the photographs, weigh and measure every little thing in my shop and make it all look pretty too. i'm also trying to finalise my own range of ceramics before christmas and i don't think i've been more nervous about doing something, since appearing as janet in the rocky horror show. shiver me freakin timbers. wish me luck!

local sefrican bloggers

ok ok i know i'm blog binging and i have to go for a run with my husky, but i want to tell you about two new sefrican bloggers i'm loving, and thereby also paying homage to my 'all things local' vibe too, instead of regurgitating things from other blogs over the seas. thrift sell vintage clothing at the neighbourgoods market in woodstock, on sundays and super sneaky street scene, are two fashion students who like to take pictures of people in cool clothes.

the finders keepers

the finders keepers markets in brisbane and in sydney, australia, and are very similar to our very own neighbourgoods market at the old biscuit mill. infact, rebound books are there aswell. i had no idea these guys were international? they have a beautiful fully functional website where i found pictures of their amazing markets.

flickr viewed almost 750 times

its only been a few weeks since i learnt how to add a link to my beatnik flickr group on my blog, and there have been an incredible amount of views to that page, now standing at almost 750. its the first place i put pics of new things in the store, which will now be feeding my beatnik bazaar.com website, launching any day now. so please keep checking the flickr site to keep up with new goods instore, many of which are once offs, as they are original retro or vintage pieces, and you'll have to nab them as soon as they are listed!

skermunkil studio

i'm spreading the love and posting a pic or two of the beautiful jewellery made by the designer who supplies my store, marietjie. she is obviously the best jewellery maker in all the land. feast your eyesies!!! i'm so lucky and happy to sell these gorgeous creations.

some pretty spooky pics of stanford

i took a power walk on saturday evening when the storm abated for a second or two and took some pics. stanford is truly picture perfect and idyllic. not only is every house beautiful, thanks to the aesthetics committee, there are walks everywhere, a beautiful river, abundant birdlife, flowers, trees...ahhhhhh, its truly beautiful and peaceful, but in the midst of storms, it looked pretty spooky.

new pics for the website

Doll ~ R280
Midwinter Coffee Pot ~ R350
Down cushion ~ R250. Rabbit ~ R100
Felt swans ~ R190
Swallow Porcelain Cups ~ R125 each
Felt cushion (large) ~ R150

i tried my hand at taking product pics for the first time this weekend, and i think they turned out ok? isn't it incredible what talented designers we have in cape town? you can see more by clicking on the right hand side of this blog and going through to my flickr site.

hello again!

it was wonderful to receive a phonecall from lynne, of 'hello again' shop, off bree street in town, to say that they were going to stop in stanford, and come check out my shop! they had some muffins and a slutty lutty (latte with amarula) at the cafe at my store and enjoyed themselves thoroughly!

hang onto your pants, cos these are really mine! in real life! really big framed horse print from the 50's and a beaaaauuutiful specimen of a mirror, from the 50's/60's .

suitcase ninjas

nicky page, the designer of these 'gwen loves harold' dolls, has sent me a snap of these little suitcase ninjas, in their new home, provided by beatnik bazaar. i bumped into nicky the other day, at a charity store, where she was looking for a beautiful suitcase, and strangely i had the perfect one, with pretty vintage floral fabric inside and all.

retro horse print

hey, i've acquired this cool retro horse print for the shop.its really big. isn't she lovely?

so excited about my website!

with long hours during very long work weeks, i'm pretty sure that customers are going to be well chuffed to have the shops brought to them, with beatnik bazaar expanding online. so if you know its your friends bday in a weeks time, you're going to be able to buy her a cup, a cushion, card and wrapping paper with a few clicks, and have it couriered to you!

window shopping

i haven't been to a mall in ages, but wound up at canal walk yesterday and took in all the sights and sounds. i thought i'd tell you about some beautifully made gorgeous threads i saw at poetry, which you can buy from their e-commerce website. poetry is the closest thing i think we have to 'toast' in the uk, which i adore for their natural fibres, lovely cuts and feminine simplistic fashion.

jezze's ceramics

jezze's ceramics feel right at home in beatnik bazaar, as you can see!

my window this weekend

i have two windows to decorate every week, and the hotel lounge window looking out onto the main road is my favourite. i put a spotlight onto the window display at night and watch everyone looking at it as they walk or drive by. last night i was inspired by the swans that my mother bought for me during her karoo trip last week and by the felt 'fawn' cushions that i collected from one of my suppliers. it resulted in a little spring forest theme.

jezze mailed me this week and offered me some of her beautiful ceramics to put into the shop by this weekend, and she treated me to a box full of gorgeousness and some hand knitted handbags to boot!
