brainstorming

my friend laura and i spend time at each others places when brainstorming designs and all the little freakin details that go into making each folklore creation. we do everything we can to activate our brain switches. we do little dances. we hold waffles up to be sacrificed to the gods. we stare out the window and hope that an airplane with sign-writing has left pattern ideas in the sky. we're doing what we can to get some autumn folklore into the store by this weekend, folks.

vintage grindley for sale

i'm selling some vintage grindley crockery in the online shop. the pieces are all in excellent condition and there are 3 dinner plates (R90 each), 2 serving/cake plates (R125 each), 4 side plates (R60 each), 2 pudding bowls (R60 each) and a large open sugar bowl (R60).

magick as a snugglewump

i've just found this picture of magick as a puppy from about 3 years ago. magick is my soulmate wolf-dog. he's incredible. he's my snugglewump. i wish you could meet him. i'm feeling ridiculously nostalgic these past few days, i wonder if anyone else is? could it be the full moon?

my body's a zombie for you

if you guys know me at all, you know how very much i love a bearded man, but you may not know my other weaknesses include a man who plays piano, a man who sings, a brooding man and a man who writes. now imagine my feelings upon hearing that near perfect ryan gosling is all these things above and more? yes my friends, ryan gosling is a brooding bearded singer who plays piano and performs the songs he writes for his band, dead man's bones. is somebody freakin playing a trick on me? i'm crazy about the band too. ryan, you're my first favourite bearded man of the week.

a summers day in autumn

it was the perfect summer's day in autumn in cape town today, so after a lovely lunch with friends at the cape farmhouse in scarborough, we stopped to walk on the beach close by and had cold drinks at blue water cafe this evening before coming home. i hope you all had a wonderful weekend too xxx

local and etsy found scribblers

undoubtedly now that i need a notebook present in my handbag at all times in order to scribble a frock design when inspiration hits, i am currently obsessed with journals and scribblers and would love to stock similar ones to these i found on etsy. i like my journals to be thick, with hard-wearing covers, as in reality they will be in my handbag amongst lipstick, keys and wallets which will be brushing against them all day. the leather journals are from a shop on etsy called 'dancing grey studio' and the beautiful lino print journals are available to be purchased at the etsy shop called 'blue toad.' the sweet wren notebooks are also an etsy find, in a store called 'ink me up.' locally i adore 'rebound books' for breathing new life into old discarded books by creating journals inside the covers of vintage books. and i crave jezze's scribblers that are presented so beautifully and hand printed with her own designs.

vicki sleet, a contributer for many local glossy magazines and writer for her own blog, i want that, has written the most delicious guest post about beatnik bazaar on i for 1. my favourite part of the article is when vicki openly admits that when you go round to her place for hot chocolate, you'd better make sure there's a designated driver; "Frankly, I’m ready for wrapping up warm, dressing my home accordingly and drinking shed-loads of Lindt hot chocolate, laced with vodka if needs be!"

i own a lauren fowler

through unexpected circumstances today, involving walking to the printers with lauren and them not using the right paper, i now own a lauren fowler original piece of artwork!!!! i love this bird so much and what's even more awesome is that i sat next to lauren while she was drawing it at our craft circle afternoon, a few sundays back.

saturation

i haven't taken a peek at lookbook for ages, for fear of over-saturation of the senses and for fear of the incredible outfits clouding visions of my own designs. but i'm glad i looked today. it's also interesting to see what you are drawn to amongst all the images. i don't know whether i love the outfits or the photography more? love you, lookbook

last days of summer

meatballs and sleepovers

my partner in the folklore range came round last night and made the best spaghetti and meatballs anybody could have in their entire lifetime. besides many other incredible talents, including studying at uct, laura is also a qualified chef and i want to plan as many design evenings as possible at my place so that laura will cook. i bought this grindley vintage crockery last week and am so in love with them. my sons's dwarf hamsters love them too.

new crochet goodies

there'll be new crochet hats and belts in store this week, made by the same brilliant creator of the blankets in beatnik bazaar, lauren summs. the hats and belts will be beautiful and affordable pieces that'll rev up any outfit, so come have a look at them this weekend!

folklore in winter

laura came round last night and we sketched a few designs that we like for the winter range. we'll be having having some samples made up this week of designs we have already created which i'm so looking forward to, especially as the weather has changed so suddenly here.

the longest house party

i went to a braai on saturday evening at my friends, or 'family from another lifetime' and stayed until monday. that has to be some kind of record? i came back today (monday) and met lauren for tea at the tibetan tearoom and we took a stroll on a special beach that i love. i was having a 'sensitive' day and was struck with inspiration for our winter range, when i took these photo's of lauren. i'm waiting for my partner in the folklore range to arrive now and am ready to scribble designs manically into the night. yes, we're designing our winter range! hope you all had a wonderful long weekend everyone.
